How to Change the Oil on a Honda Civic Hybrid

Replacing the oil in your Honda Civic Hybrid is similar to replacing the oil in a normal vehicle, because the Hybrid also has an internal combustion engine. Replacing the oil in your Hybrid is important, because the oil breaks down chemically over the course of a few thousand miles and loses its capacity to lubricate and cool effectively. To ensure that your oil is protecting your engine, make sure to replace it every 3,000 miles if you are using conventional motor oil or every 5,000 to 8,000 miles if you are using synthetic motor oil.

Jack up the Honda Civic Hybrid and place on jack stands.

Open the hood and prop it open.

Unscrew the oil cap from the valve cover and set aside.

Place a drain pan beneath the oil pan.

Unscrew the oil pan drain bolt with a ratchet and allow the oil to drain into it.

Tighten the oil drain bolt back into the oil pan once the oil has drained completely.

Remove the oil filter from the engine block by twisting it in a counterclockwise direction.

Install a new oil filter onto the engine block. Make sure that the old oil filter gasket has been removed from the engine block.

Lower the Honda Civic to the ground.

Fill the engine with 3.4 quarts of 0W-20 motor oil. Replace the oil cap.
