by John London

The 1983 F250 is a full-size pickup truck produced by Ford. The vehicle belongs to the famous Ford F-series, which also includes the F100 and F150. The F250 is larger than its two smaller brothers. In 1983, like in most model years, it was available in multiple configurations.

Engine

The 1983 Ford F250 had two engine options. Buyers could choose a 4089 cc, inline four-cylinder, overhead-valve engine with a 93.5 by 99.3 mm bore and stroke and a 9-to-1 compression ratio. Or they could opt for a larger, V-shaped eight-cylinder, overhead-valve engine, which had a 101.6 mm bore, 88.9 mm stroke and a compression ratio of 9-to-1.

Power and Torque

As the 1983 Ford F250 models were equipped with rather large engines, they certainly had ample power. The 4.1-liter engine produced 123 horsepower and a maximum torque of 213 foot pounds. The 5.8-liter engine delivered a maximum power of 217 horsepower and a maximum torque of 316 foot pounds.

Transmission and Drivetrain

In 1983, buyers of the Ford F250 had three transmission options: a three-speed automatic, a four-speed manual or a five-speed manual. The three-speed automatic transmission came with models equipped with the 4.1-liter engines, while variants with the 5.8-liter engine could come with either a four- or five-speed manual transmission. All models had rear wheel drive.

Dimensions and Weight

The Ford F250 models had the same dimensions and weight. Whatever the engine, the truck was 211 inches long, 80 inches wide and 72 inches high. The wheelbase measured 132 inches. The pickup truck weighed 4,260 lbs. without and 7,600 lbs. with liquids. The vehicle could carry up to three people.
