DIY: Trike Conversion

by Kent Tukeli

Converting a two-wheeled vehicle into a trike is a process that improves the safety and handling of the bike. Using a conversion kit makes it easier to install and maintain the trike.

Installing a new suspension is required to convert a bike into a trike. This provides a much smoother ride than a bike, distributing a greater amount of shock absorption to the rear.

DIY trike projects also involve significant change to the chassis in order to provide the necessary architecture for the back wheels. Conversion kits designed for specific manufacturers maintain the overall style of the vehicle.

Converting a bike into a trike adds extra comfort and stability to the ride because of the extra suspension, weight and tires provided for conversion. It is also possible to change the trike back to a two-wheel vehicle without damaging the original bike.
