Can Gas Be Used in an E85 Dodge Grand Caravan?

by Charles Green

Yes, you can use gasoline in an E85 Dodge Grand Caravan, as long as it is a factory-specified flexible or flex-fuel vehicle (FFV). Models categorized as FFVs can use straight gasoline or E85 fuel.

Identification

Not all Dodge Grand Caravans are flex-fuel vehicles. If your gas cap is yellow, then your vehicle can run on regular gasoline or E85 fuel, which is a blend of 85 percent ethanol and 15 percent gasoline.

Applicable Models

Dodge Caravans outfitted with 3.3-liter V-6 engines were flex-fuel capable from 1998 to 2003 and again from 2006 to 2010. The 2011 Dodge Grand Caravan's 3.6-liter V-6 engine can use either fuel.

Fuel Mileage

The 2010 Dodge Grand Caravan is EPA-rated for 17 mpg in the city and 24 mpg on the highway when filled with gasoline. When filled with E85 fuel, the Grand Caravan's fuel mileage drops to 12 mpg in the city and 17 mpg on the highway.
