How to Turn Off the Check Engine Light on a Dodge

by Alibaster Smith

Your Dodge's "Check Engine" light comes on when there is a problem with the engine, fuel, or exhaust systems. The engine light indicates that immediate attention is required. To fix the problem, you'll first need to run a diagnostic scan of the system. A scan tool available at most auto parts stores will effectively retrieve the codes you need to diagnose the problem so that you can fix whatever is wrong with your Dodge. Then, you need to turn off the check engine light.

Step 1

Locate the OBD access plug under the dashboard. It will be located to the left of the main fuse panel and should be accessible without having to remove the fuse panel cover.

Step 2

Plug the scan tool into the access port. Then, turn on the scan tool and turn the ignition key to the "On" position, but don't crank the engine.

Step 3

Wait for the OBD scan tool to display "Ok", then press "Clear" on the scan tool to clear all trouble codes. This will also turn off the "Check Engine" light on your dashboard.
