BMW Bluetooth Compatible Phones
by Danielle HillIncluded as part of the BMW premium package, or as a standard feature on its more deluxe automobiles, Bluetooth capability can automatically link your cell phone to the car's speaker system, letting it function as a hands-free device. Coupled with a voice-activation feature, BMW's Bluetooth technology lets you place calls without ever moving your hands from the wheel. However, it's first necessary to confirm that you have a cell phone compatible with the BMW system.
AT&T Network Phones
BMW's Bluetooth function complements 11 different phones on the AT&T network as of September 2010. Among Apple's phones, BMW Bluetooth works with iPhone 3GS, both 8GB & 32GB variants, and the Apple iPhone 4, both 16GB & 32GB variants. Among other smart phones, the Bluetooth system is compatible with the Blackberry 8820, BlackBerry 8900, Blackberry Curve 8320, Blackberry Pearl (versions 8100, 8110, 8120) and the BlackBerry Bold 9000. Other compatible AT&T network devices include the Palm Treo Pro GSM/UMTS (unlocked) and the SonyEricsson W350a, W518a and W760a.
Sprint Network Phones
Among Sprint's network phones, BMW Bluetooth supports the Blackberry Pearl 8130 and HTC 's Hero, Snap, Touch Pro and Touch Pro2. The Palm Centro, Pre and Treo, both 800w and Pro, also comply. The Samsung Instinct, whether M800, HD/SPH-M850 or s30/SPH-M810 are all compatible, as well as Samsung's Intrepid (SPH-I350). The Sanyo SCP-2700 is also compatible.
T-Mobile Network Phones
Compatible phones on the T-Mobile network include a range of Blackberries: the BlackBerry 8900, Blackberry Pearl (either 8100 or 8120) and the BlackBerry Pearl Flip 8220 all comply. The Nexus One is also compatible with the BMW Bluetooth system, as is T-Mobile's own G1.
Verizon Network Phones
Verizon's array of compatible phones include several Blackberries and many of the carrier's featured LG phones. The BlackBerry Pearl 8130, BlackBerry Storm 9530 and Storm2 9550 and the BlackBerry Tour 9630 all work with BMW bluetooth. HTC's XV6900 is also compatible. LG's Accolade, Chocolate Touch, VX10K Voyager, VX11000 (or "enV Touch"), VX8360, VX9100 (or "enV2"), VX9200 (or "enV3") and VX9600 (or "Versa") are all compliant. The Motorola Droid also works with BMW Bluetooth.
Previously Approved Phones
In addition to the list of compliant phones, BMW posts a list on its website of "previously approved phones." These devices were, at one date, compatible with BMW Bluetooth and they may continue to have partial functionality with the BMW Bluetooth features. However, BMW takes no responsibility for their performance. A few of the models include the Apple iPhone and iPhone 3G (8GB and 16GB variants), the Blackberry 8700, the HTC Touch and the Motorola V3.
