How to Adjust the Idle in a Toyota V6 3.0

An excessively low idle speed can cause the vehicle to stall when changing gears, while an excessively high idle speed can waste fuel and cause the vehicle to leap forward when engaging a forward gear. The Toyota V6 3.0 engine's idle speed can be adjusted by turning the idle screw located on the engine's throttle body. You need a slotted screwdriver to adjust the screw.
Step 1
Locate and pull the interior hood release lever located on the left side of the driver's side foot well. Exit the vehicle and locate the release latch underneath the center of the hood. Pull the latch upwards to raise the hood.
Step 2
Locate the idle screw on the throttle body near the throttle cables. Clean any dirt or debris from the idle screw area with a shop towel.
Step 3
Turn the engine on. Use a slotted screwdriver to slowly turn the idle screw while listening to the engine's idle speed. Keep turning the screw until the engine's idle is at the desired speed. Turn the engine off when finished.
