How to Reset the Oil Change Light on a 2000 Chevy Camaro
by Leonardo R. GrabkowskiThe oil-change light in your 2000 Camaro turns on for 60 seconds after the engine is cranked, if the system detects the vehicle needs an oil change. This monitoring system analyzes oil quality based on engine rpm's and engine temperature. The light usually comes on between 3,000 and 7,500 miles, indicating that it's time to change the engine oil and filter. All 2000 Camaros have this feature, whether equipped with the 3.8L V6 or the 5.7L V8 engine.
Step 1
Turn the ignition to position "D" (Run). This setting is as far as the ignition will turn without cranking the engine. Do not start the engine.
Step 2
Push and hold "Trip/oil change button" on the dashboard. This is the same button used to toggle between your trip meter and your odometer.
Step 3
Wait for the oil light to begin flashing. This takes about 12 seconds. After a few seconds of flashing, the light disappears. Release the stem and turn the ignition off.
