The airbag light on a Kia will illuminate as "SRS," which stands for Supplemental Restraint System. Usually it doesn't illuminate unless the vehicle has been in an accident. If it does turn on, it means there is a malfunction with the airbag system. You should have the vehicle towed to the nearest mechanic or dealership to have it looked at and replaced. Once you have done this, you need to reset the airbag light in order to keep the KIA's computer functioning properly. This process will also turn off the SRS light.

Step 1

Find the rectangular-shaped fuse panel cover on the lower part of the driver's side dashboard. Open it by pulling down on it from the top.

Step 2

Find the largest port inside the fuse panel and check to make sure it is the same size and shape as the connector on the computerized scan tool. Plug the scan tool into this port.

Step 3

Put the key into the ignition and turn it to the "II" position, but don't start the engine. This will power on the scan tool.

Step 4

Look for a command on the computerized scan tool that says "delete codes" or "clear all codes." Select one of these options to reset the computer. When the scan tool indicates that it is finished by returning to the main menu, you should unplug the scan tool from the port.

Step 5

Start the engine and verify that all service and warning lights have turned off of the instrument panel.
