You can reset the computer on your Chrysler Town & Country minivan in your garage, saving yourself a trip to the mechanic or dealership. When an indicator is illuminated on the vehicle's instrument cluster, an error code has been sent to the onboard diagnostics, or OBD, computer from a sensor. Error codes are used to diagnose problems with the Chrysler. You can reset error codes using an OBD scan tool. This small computerized device can be bought online or from any auto parts retailer. Make sure you reset the computer only after you have finished repairing or servicing the car or you may risk damaging the computer.

Step 1

Locate the OBD port, which is the same size and shape as the scan tool's connective end; the port can be found on the underside of the driver's-side dash next to the steering column.

Step 2

Plug the scan tool into the port. Put the key into the ignition and turn it to the "On" position, taking care not to start the engine. This will power on most scan tools; if it doesn't, locate the on-off switch on the tool and turn it on.

Step 3

Wait for the scan tool to retrieve the codes. Locate the "Delete Codes" or "Erase Codes" command and select it. Wait for the tool to erase all codes.

Step 4

Unplug the scan tool and start the engine. Check to make sure all lights have turned off on the instrument panel.
