How to Reprogram the Ford Expedition Entry Code
by Casey WoodsThe keyless entry system on your Ford Expedition comes programmed with a factory-set entry code. While you cannot change this preset five-digit code, you can create your own. Newer models even allow you to enter multiple codes, so you can set codes for different family members that are easy for them to remember. Entering a personal entry code is straightforward and easy, as long as you know the original factory-set entry code.
Instructions for 2007 and Newer Expeditions
Step 1
Find your factory-set entry code on the owner's wallet card in the glove box. If you cannot locate this card and do not already know your code, contact your Ford dealer.
Step 2
Enter your factory-set code on the entry keypad. Press firmly in the middle of the appropriate key for each digit of the five-digit code. You must press the keys within five seconds of each other for the code to be recognized.
Step 3
Press and release the 1*2 key. You must press this key within five seconds of entering the factory-set code.
Step 4
Enter your new personal five-digit code, firmly pressing the keys. As before, you must press the keys within five seconds of each other for the code to be recognized.
Step 5
Assign your new personal entry code to one of the three available driver settings. Press the 12 key to assign the code to Driver 1, the 34 key to assign to Driver 2 or the 5*6 key for Driver 3.
Instructions for Pre-2007 Expeditions
Step 1
Find your factory-set entry code on the owner's wallet card in the glove box. You can also find the five- digit code printed in your Expedition on the module under the right side of the instrument panel, next to the passenger compartment fuse box. If you cannot locate the factory-set code and do not already know it, contact your Ford dealer.
Step 2
Enter your factory-set code on the entry keypad. Press firmly in the middle of the appropriate number key for each digit of the five-digit code. You must press the keys within five seconds of each other for the code to be recognized.
Step 3
Press and release the 1*2 key. You must press this key within five seconds of entering the factory-set code.
Step 4
Enter your new personal five-digit code, firmly pressing the keys. Again, you only have five seconds between key presses for the code to be recognized.
Tips
- In a 2007 or newer Expedition, you can also press the 7*8 key or the 9*0 key to assign a personal code to Driver 3.
- Select a personal entry code that is easy to remember but not too simple. Do not use five sequential numbers or the same number five times. You do not want to make your personal code too easy to break.
- The factory-set code works even after you enter a personal code.
Warnings
- If you take longer than five seconds between key presses, the system will not recognize your entry, and you will need to restart the process.
