How to Replace a Headlight Bulb in a Nissan Sentra
by Editorial TeamShould you be unlucky enough to have the headlamp bulb in your Nissan Sentra burn out, you can replace it yourself. This job doesn't require any special tools, but you'll need to get the appropriate replacement bulb before starting. These instructions only apply to models made from 2000 to 2006.
Step 1
Take the Sentra's keys out of the ignition and set the parking brake for added safety. Also, make sure the headlamp control is in the "OFF" position.
Step 2
Open the hood using the primary and auxiliary release latches. Then, disconnect the battery cables.
Step 3
Remove the battery and battery cover if you're replacing the driver's side headlight. If you're replacing the passenger's side headlight, leave them in place and continue to Step 4.
Step 4
Disconnect the electrical connector from the back side of the bulb.
Step 5
Loosen the old bulb by turning it counterclockwise and pull it out of the socket. Carefully dispose of the bulb so it doesn't crack or shatter.
Step 6
Install the new bulb into the socket and reattach the electrical connector.
Step 7
Start your Sentra's engine and test the headlights to make sure they work before closing the hood.
Tips
- Check the diagram in Section 8 of your Sentra Owner's Manual if you're unsure of which bulb to replace.
- Be careful not to scratch or smudge the new bulb's lens as you install it.
