How to Replace a Headlight Bulb in a GMC Sierra
by Editorial TeamIf you've owned your GMC Sierra for a few years, your headlight bulbs may need replacing. As long as you have the correct replacement bulbs in hand, completing the installation should only take a few minutes and won't require any special tools.
Step 1
Set the parking brake and remove the keys from the ignition. Make sure the headlights are switched off, then open the hood using the primary and auxiliary release latches.
Step 2
Remove pin on the headlight assembly by turning it up and pulling it straight out. Draw the headlamp assembly away from the truck and unplug its electrical connector.
Step 3
Pull the headlight assembly away from the front of your truck. Be careful not to scratch the headlight's lens or the truck's exterior paint.
Step 4
Detach the electrical connector from the back of the bulb, and then turn the bulb counterclockwise to remove it from the assembly. Dispose of the bulb immediately to prevent it from becoming a hazard.
Step 5
Twist the new bulb clockwise into the socket and reattach the electrical connector.
Step 6
Press the headlight assembly back into position and turn on the truck's engine. Test the new bulb to make sure it works before replacing the retaining pin and shutting the hood.
Tips
- Check the headlight diagram in Section 5 of your Sierra Owner's Manual if you're unsure of which bulb to replace.
Things You'll Need
