How to Replace a Battery on a Yamaha Grizzly 660by Tara Kimball
The Yamaha Grizzly 660 is a full size ATV that was manufactured from 2002 to 2008. The Grizzly 660 includes an independent rear suspension with dual shocks. The battery in the Grizzly 660 is a 12-volt battery. Buy a replacement battery from a Yamaha dealership or aftermarket supplier such as a motorsports parts retailer. Change the battery in your Grizzly 660 at home to save substantial charges from a service center.
Pull up on the seat's lock lever and then pull up on the rear of the seat to remove it from the ATV. Remove the two bolts securing the battery retaining bracket using a wrench.
Remove the screw securing the battery lead cover using a Phillips screwdriver. Remove the negative battery lead with a wrench. Lift the ring connector away from the battery. Remove the positive battery lead with a wrench. Move the ring connector away from the battery.
Lift the old battery out of the battery tray. Insert the new battery with the same post alignment as the one you removed had. Replace the positive battery lead and secure the bolt with a wrench. Replace the negative battery lead and secure the bolt with a wrench.
Replace the battery lead cover and screw. Tighten the mounting screw with a Phillips screwdriver. Replace the retaining bracket and secure it with the two bolts. Tighten the bolts with a wrench. Torque the bolts to 5 pound-feet with a torque wrench.
Push the seat into position and press the back of the seat down until it locks into place. Test your new battery by starting the ATV.
