How to Replace the Battery in a 745Li

by Cameron Easey

The 745Li is a sedan manufactured by BMW. If the car is not starting normally or fails to start, the battery may be unable to hold a charge. When this occurs you will need to replace it with a new one battery. However, you will need to first gain access to the battery, which is located in the trunk of the vehicle. The process for changing the battery will be the same as with a domestic vehicle.

Step 1

Open the trunk of the vehicle. Pull back the carpeting on the right side of the trunk.

Step 2

Locate the plastic battery cover. Remove the screws that are used to secure the battery cover with the Phillips-head screwdriver.

Step 3

Pull the plastic covers off of the positive and negative terminals.

Step 4

Remove the negative battery cable from the battery terminal with the wrench.

Step 5

Remove the positive battery cable form the battery terminal with the wrench.

Step 6

Locate the bolt that is used to secure the battery in the compartment. Remove the bolt with the wrench or a socket wrench.

Step 7

Pull the battery out of the compartment and out of the trunk. Set the old battery aside.

Step 8

Insert the new battery into the compartment. Replace the bolt that is used to secure the battery in the compartment.

Step 9

Attach the negative and positive battery cables. Tighten the cables with the wrench. Place the plastic covers over the battery terminals.

Set the plastic battery cover back in place and tighten the screws. Fold over the carpet in the trunk.

  • If the wrench touches both of the battery terminals, it will short out the battery.
