How to program a spare key for a Ford Focus
by Editorial TeamThe Ford Focus uses a transponder key that needs to be programmed to your car. An unprogrammed key will not start the car even if it has the correct cut to operate the locks. If you need a spare key for your Focus and you already have 2 keys that are already programmed and start the car, you can program an extra key yourself. The following steps describe how to do this procedure.
Step 1
Place one of the original keys in the igniton. Turn the key from off to run and back to off. Remove the key.
Step 2
Place the second original key in the ignition. Turn the key from off to run and back to off. Remove the key.
Step 3
Now, place your new key in the ignition. Turn the key from off to run and back to off. Remove the key.
Step 4
Place the new key in the ignition and turn it from off to the start position. If the key has been successfully programmed, the car will now start.
Things You'll Need
- Two original keys
- A new key cut for your vehicle
