How to Program a Colorado Key Fob
by Tara KimballThe Chevrolet Colorado keyless entry system is controlled by a remote transmitter programmed specifically to work with your truck. You can program up to four remotes on the system, allowing you to have one for each driver, as well as any necessary spares. Buy replacement or additional remotes from a Chevrolet dealer or auto parts retailer and program them yourself to save a costly dealership fee.
Step 1
Sit in the driver's seat of the truck and close all of its doors. Insert the ignition key into the Colorado's ignition cylinder.
Step 2
Press and hold the "Unlock" button on the power lock panel of the driver's side door. While holding the "Unlock" button, turn the ignition key to "Run," then cycle it back to "Off." Repeat this sequence one more time.
Step 3
Release the "Unlock" button--the door locks will lock, then unlock, to notify you that the truck is in programming mode.
Step 4
Press and hold both the "Lock" and "Unlock" buttons until the door locks cycle again--it may be 30 seconds or more before this happens. Do this step for any additional transmitters you wish to program.
Step 5
Turn the key to the "Run" position to exit programming. Turn the key to the "Off" position to remove it from the cylinder.
