The Best Performance V6 Engines

Some modern V6 engines are turned for high performance, particularly when compared to some older V6 engines. In fact, some modern V6 engines are more powerful than V8 engines. One particular case is Ford's 4.6L V8, which comes in the Mercury Grand Marquis and Lincoln Town Car, among other vehicles. This engine makes 224 horsepower, which is lower than the amount produced by some of the high-performance V6 engines.

Honda's 3.5L V6

Honda's 3.5L V6 produces 271 horsepower and 254 foot-pounds of torque. This engine is available in the Honda Accord with an upgrade package, as well as in the Honda Pilot and Ridgeline. It's also available in many Acura vehicles, including the TSX and the TL. Acura is Honda's luxury brand.

GM's 3.6L V6

GM uses the 3.6L V6 in a number of its automobiles, including the Chevrolet Camaro, Buick Enclave, Buick Lucerne and Chevrolet Traverse. It produces between 288 and 304 horsepower, depending on which vehicle it comes in. It also produces between 270 and 273 foot-pounds of torque, depending on its application.

Ford's 3.5L V6

Ford's 3.5L V6 is available in the Ford Edge, Fusion, Flex and Taurus. Despite its high horsepower rating of 263, it's not found in the Ford Mustang. The Mustang receives the lower-power 4.0L V6 for base models, with an optional V8. The 3.5L V6 produces 249 foot-pounds of torque.

Nissan's 3.5L V6

Nissan uses the 3.5L V6 in the Altima, Maxima and Pathfinder -- as well as in vehicles from its luxury brand, Infiniti. The Nissan 370Z uses an enlarged version of the 3.5L V6 (3.7L). Infiniti vehicles equipped with the engine include the M35 and the EX35. The engine produces between 263 and 290 horsepower, depending on its application. It also produces between 258 and 261 foot-pounds of torque.

Mazda's 3.7L V6

Mazda's 3.7L V6 comes in the Mazda 6 "S" model, while the base "I" model receives the lesser four-cylinder engine. It also comes with the Mazda CX-9. It produces 273 horsepower and 270 foot-pounds of torque.

Toyota's 3.5L V6

Toyota's 3.5L V6 comes in the Toyota Camry, Avalon, RAV4 and Highlander, although several of the vehicles come with four-cylinders in base form. The 3.5L V6 produces 268 horsepower and 248 foot-pounds of torque. Toyota also uses the 3.5L V6 in its luxury division, Lexus. There the engine comes with the Lexus IS350, where it produces 306 horsepower and 273 foot-pounds of torque.
