Nissan Pathfinder Neutral Safety Switch Location
by Kyle SanstromThe neutral safety switch in a Nissan Pathfinder is located on the right side of the transmission tailshaft housing. This switch prevents the engine from starting when the transmission is out of the park or neutral position, preventing the vehicle from jumping forward. When this switch fails, the engine will not start. Replacement neutral safety switches are available from Nissan dealerships and local auto parts stores.
Step 1
Place the transmission in the park position, turn off the engine and apply the parking brake.
Step 2
Crawl underneath the passenger side of the vehicle and look at the rear of the transmission, where the tailshaft meets the drive shaft.
Step 3
Locate the neutral safety switch. It is on the right side of the tailshaft housing, just below the shifter housing. It is shaped like a half-moon, made from steel, and has two electrical connectors attached to its bottom end.
