How Much Oil Does a 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer Take?

by Kyle McBride

Chevrolet equipped the 2004 Trailblazer with the 4.2-liter, in-line six-cylinder Vortec 4200 engine, or the optional 5.3-liter, V-8 Vortec 5300 engine. All models came equipped with a four-speed automatic transmission. When you change the oil and filter on your Trailblazer, refill it with 6 quarts of oil if you have the Vortex 5300 or 7 quarts for the Vortec 4200.

Engine Oil Specs

Chevrolet recommends you only use oil that meets GM Standard GM6094M and bears the starburst symbol showing that it has American Petroleum Institute certification. Use SAE 5W-30 oil for most situations. If your local temperature gets down to 0 degrees F, or if SAE 5W-30 is not available, you may use SAE 10W-30. In extremely cold environments -- down to -20 degrees F, use either SAE 5W-30 synthetic oil or SAE 0W-30 oil in your Trailblazer.
