How to Remove the Headlamp Assembly on Vehicles

The Vehicles headlamp assembly houses two headlights: one used Vehicles low beam and one used Vehicles high beam. The headlight attaches to the front of the Vehicles from inside the engine compartment. Over time, the headlamp lens becomes cloudy because of road debris, and it can even crack, allowing moisture inside the light assembly. Both situations require the removal of the Vehicles headlamp assembly Vehicles repair.

Under The Hood:

Turn the headlight switch off.

Open the hood.

Remove the four retaining bolts from the top, inboard side, and bottom of the headlamp assembly with a nut driver. Place the bolts aside.

Grasp the headlamp assembly by the edges and pull it straight out of its mounting bracket until the two retaining clips in the fender release. Do not pull the headlamp out too far, or the bulb wiring, which will still be attached to the rear of the assembly, could be stretched or damaged.

Press in on the release tab on the headlamp bulb wiring connector on the back side of the headlamp assembly. Move the connector forward and then backward to remove it from the headlamp. Remove the headlamp assembly from the front of the truck.

Open the hood of the engine and prop the hood on the hood prop.

Locate the backside of the headlamp assembly. This is relatively straightforward as the backside is black and attaches to the other side of the clear headlamp lens.

Remove the two light sockets on the backside of the assembly. To do so, turn each socket counterclockwise a quarter turn and then pull the socket free of the assembly. Take caution because the halogen bulbs are connected to the sockets.

Remove the two bolts that secure the top half of the headlamp assembly to the radiator support using a socket and ratchet.

Pull up on the headlamp assembly to remove it from the front of the vehicle. The bottom of the assembly has a tab that presses into the bumper fascia. When you pull up on the assembly, it separates the tab from the bumper.

 How to Remove the Headlamp Assembly in the Jeep Grand Cherokee

Unscrew the upper inside corner of the light bezel. The bezel is the ring that holds the headlights onto the car. Unscrew the two screws for the turn-signal assembly and pull it away from the Cherokee.

Unscrew the remaining two screws on the headlight bezel. The bezel will now pull completely away from the truck.

Locate the retaining ring that is around the headlight. There will be four screws, two in the bottom and two on the top of the headlight. Pull the retaining ring away from the headlight assembly.

Pull the headlight assembly away from the Jeep. Press the clip to remove the connector from the light assembly. Pull the wiring harness off of the headlight assembly.
