Homemade Windshield Bug Remover Formula
by Nick DavisBugs fly down and smash into your car's windshield each and every day. The bugs leave not only their bodies, but feces and other fragments on the windshield and other parts of your car. You try to clean the bugs from your car's windshield regularly with a commercial glass cleaner, but you want a cleaner you can make at home. There are some homemade windshield cleaning formulas you can use to remove the bug stains.
Onion Bags and Baking Soda
The next time you buy onions that are in a nylon netting bag, keep the bag and use it to wipe bugs from your car's windshield. The nylon netting is rough enough to break up the dead bugs and related fragments, but won't damage your car's windshield. Then sprinkle about a tablespoon of baking soda on to a damp sponge and scrub away any remaining bug residue.
Wash the windshield further with ½ cup of vinegar and 1 cup of water. Then rinse the windshield with clean water. Dry the windshield with paper towels.
Coca-Cola
Shake a 20 oz. bottle of Coca-Cola from side-to-side three times to build pressure within the bottle. Then aim the bottle toward the bugs on your car's windshield and remove the cap. Move the shooting bottle of Coca-Cola over the entire windshield and coat the bugs with the drink. Let the Coca-Cola sit on the window for five minutes. Then scrub the bugs off with a damp sponge or soft cloth. The acids in the Coca-Cola will break down and lift off the dead bugs, feces and remaining fragments. Rinse the Coca-Cola from the windshield with clean water. Then wash the windshield with ½ cup of vinegar and 1 cup of water. Rinse the windshield with clean water then dry the window with paper towels.
Park your car in a shady area before applying the bottle of Coca-Cola to the windshield. Direct sunlight will dry the Coca-Cola to your windshield before you can remove all of it.
Coca-Cola and a Spray Bottle
If you are traveling and need a way to quickly remove bugs from your car's windshield, pour a 20 oz. bottle of Coca-Cola into a spray bottle and keep the spray bottle in your carl. When you stop to get gas, just spray your car's windshield with the Coca-Cola, let it sit for five minutes then rinse the window clean with a squeegee found at most gas stations.
