Checking the Ford Mustang door panel tag will give Mustang owners all the information they need to identify their transmissions. For Mustangs that do not have a door tag, you can use an online resource to identify your transmission.

Door Tag

All Mustangs have a door panel tag that gives all the pertinent information on that particular Mustang. This includes the V.I.N,. or vehicle identification number. In some cases the door tag may be missing due to an accident or old age. For Mustangs that do not have a door tag, you can use the Mustang Decoder Online to find your door tag information by using your V.I.N. number.

Identification

To identify your Ford Mustang transmission, you will want to locate the first number underneath the "TR" code at the bottom right hand corner of the door tag. The only number you need to pay attention to is the first number or letter listed. For TR codes that start with a K, you have a Mustang transmission TR-3650. If your tag lists a six first, you have a five-speed manual, T-45 OD Mustang Transmission. If your tag has a five first, you have a T-5 OD Mustang transmission.

Fun Fact

The other numbers listed on the door panel TR code are for the front and back Mustang springs.
