Evinrude E-TEC Specificationsby Andrew Tennyson
Two-stroke outboard motors have long been notorious for polluting and general gasoline waste. Four-stroke motors have been better in this respect. With the E-TEC line, Evinrude claims that it has reinvented the two-stroke motor to better address these shortcomings.
The E-TEC line is made up of some 20 different outboard motors with sizes ranging from 15 to 300 horsepower. According to Evinrude, all E-TEC motors offer lower emissions, less noise and no smoke. They require no oil changes and no maintenance for three years or 300 miles, whichever comes first. They also require less fuel to run.
Evinrude E-TEC 40HP Inline
The 40 horsepower E-TEC outboard is an inline two-cylinder, direct injection boat motor with a displacement of 52.7 cubic inches, or 864 cc. It achieves its maximum 40 horsepower at between 5,000 and 6,000 rpm. It is available in power trim, power tilt and manual tilt. Evinrude claims that the E-TEC 40HP meets the highest worldwide emissions standards.
Evinrude E-TEC 200 High Output
The Evinrude E-TEC 200 High Output is a V-6 direct injection outboard motor. It has a displacement of 200.1 cubic inches, or 3,279 cc. The motor achieves its maximum throttle at between 4,500 and 5,800 rpm. It is available with shaft lengths between 506 and 635 mm. All models come with FastTrak Power Trim and Tilt. Every E-TEC 200 High Output motor comes with a three-year "non-declining" warranty.
