How to enable and use the remote starter on a Chevy HHR
by Shaun Helsom
The HHR by Chevrolet has the convenient option of starting its engine using the keychain remote. This will allow the air conditioner or heater to bring the car to a comfortable temperature before entering. This can be especially useful in avoiding burns from hot surfaces in desert climates. This option is built in to the on-board computer but may require the purchase of a specialized four-button keychain remote from your dealer.
Step 1
Start the engine and leave the car in park.
Step 2
Hold the info and select buttons on the steering wheel for 3 seconds and release. The dash readout will now enter the settings menu.
Step 3
Press the info button repeatedly until it reads "Remote Start: Off." Press the select button until it reads "Remote Start: On." Turn off the engine.
Step 4
Press the lock button on the remote.
Step 5
Hold the start button on the remote for 3 seconds (commonly a loop symbol) until the engine starts.
Step 6
Press the unlock button, insert the key into the ignition and turn it to the "on" position.
