How to Disable an Airbag on a Jeep Grand Cherokee

The airbag that is attached to the steering wheel cover connects to the fuse box with a couple of electrical wires running through the steering wheel. You can access these wires from underneath the steering wheel when you remove the steering wheel column cover.
Things You'll Need:
- Open-end wrench
- Fuse puller
- Screwdriver
1. Unfasten the negative battery cable of the Jeep Grand Cherokee from the battery post
Unfasten the negative battery cable of the Jeep Grand Cherokee from the battery post with an open-end wrench. Allow the vehicle to sit with the battery cable removed for about thirty minutes to let the airbag discharge.
2. Locate the fuse box underneath the dashboard between the steering wheel and the driver's side door
Locate the fuse box underneath the dashboard between the steering wheel and the driver's side door. Find the airbag fuse by looking at the diagram on the fuse box lid to see which fuse operates the airbag.
3. Remove the airbag fuse with a fuse puller and find the plastic steering column cover
Remove the airbag fuse with a fuse puller and find the plastic steering column cover underneath the steering column. Unfasten the screws holding the steering column cover on with a screwdriver and set the cover out of the way.
4. Locate the yellow plastic electrical connector and unplug the connector by hand
Locate the yellow plastic electrical connector and unplug the connector by hand. Find the green plastic electrical connector next to the yellow connector and unplug it by hand in order to disable the Jeep Grand Cherokee airbag.
