In its ninth year of production the Equinox has proven to be an important part of Chevrolet's lineup. The m2014 Equinox is a capable crossover SUV with two engine options -- a 2.4-liter four-cylinder or a 3.6-liter V-6 -- and either two- or all-wheel drive. Using the correct fluids during maintenance is the key to long vehicle life.

Engine Oil

The specified engine oil is 5W-30 Dexos1, which is a synthetic blend oil. The 3.6-liter takes 6 quarts and the 2.4-liter takes 5 quarts.

Transmission Fluid

The automatic transmission in the Equinox calls for between 4.2 and 6.3 quarts of Dexron VI synthetic transmission fluid. It is the same with both engines.

Engine Coolant

The cooling system uses a 50/50 mixture of Dexcool coolant and distilled water. The 3.6-liter holds 10.8 quarts and the 2.4-liter holds 8.2 quarts.

Brake Fluid

The braking system uses DOT 3 brake fluid. There is no quantity specification for brake fluid.

Transfer Case

If the vehicle is equipped with all-wheel drive it takes 1.06 quarts of 75W-90 synthetic gear oil. This does not change with engine size.
