How to Change the Oil Filter in a 2007 Chevy Impala
by Robert GoodThe oil filter on the 2007 Chevy Impala is located on the side of the oil pan. The engine oil inside the oil pan needs to be completely drained from the oil pan before removing the oil filter from the oil pump. The oil filter is removed and installed by screwing it into the bottom of the oil pump. You will need a special oil filter removal tool to unscrew the oil filter.
Step 1
Jack the front of the Chevy Impala off the ground using the floor jack; support the front end on a pair of jack stands. Get under the engine and position the drain pan under the oil pan. Remove the plug on the bottom of the oil pan using the ratchet set; let the engine oil drain into the drain pan. Replace the plug to the bottom of the oil pan.
Step 2
Place the drain pan under the oil filter. Place the oil filter removal tool over the oil filter and twist the oil filter off of the engine in a counterclockwise motion. Allow the remaining engine oil to drain into the drain pan and pour the engine oil inside the filter into the drain pan.
Step 3
Fill the new oil filter with new engine oil. Rub some of the engine oil around the rubber seal and screw the new oil filter into the engine. Slide out from underneath the front end and bring the drain pan with you.
Step 4
Lift the front end of the Chevy Impala using the jack and remove the jack stands. Lower the Chevy Impala back to the ground.
