Cars Similar to a PT Cruiser

by Steve Johnson

Around the turn of the millennium, a new vehicle rolled off the assembly line. The PT Cruiser was packed with a modest 2.4-liter engine, had around 120 cubic feet of interior space, and possessed a front grill and style that gave it a sleek and unique look compared with its competitors. For prospective car buyers who find the relative size and style of the vehicle appealing, there are several alternative, but similar options.

Grand Vitara

The Grand Vitara --- made by Suzuki --- seats up to five passengers. The 2010 four-door SUV can be bought in nine trims, ranging from the top-of-the-line "Limited Edition" to the base model. The standard powertrain on Grand Vitara vehicles is a 2.4-liter, inline four-cylinder engine, which tops out at 166 horsepower while at 6,000 rpm. The torque stands at 162 lb.-ft. around 4,000 rpm. The vehicle comes in both four-wheel drive and rear-wheel drive. The 2010 Gand Vitara runs around $19,000 to $27,000.

Toytoa FJ Cruiser

Even similar in name, the 2010 model of Toyota's FJ Cruiser runs from $22,200 to $23,700. The four-door SUV seats up to five passengers and comes in three trims, including a two-wheel drive model, a four-wheel drive MT and a four-wheel drive AT. The 4.0-liter V-6 engine maxes out at roughly 258 horsepower while at 5,600 rpm. The torque stands at 270 lb.-ft. at 4,400 rpm. The vehicle comes standard with a five-speed automatic, which can be either rear- or four-wheel drive, depending upon the buyer's preference.

Honda CR-V

Another alternative is the 2010 Honda CR-V, which comes as a four-door SUV that seats up to five passengers. The eight available trims range from the base version to the EX-L four-wheel drive model. The engine is a 2.4-liter, inline four-cylinder, which tops out at 180 horsepower while at 6,800 rpm. The torque holds steady with 161 lb.-ft. at 4,400 rpm. The vehicle can be purchased in either a four- or two-wheel drive model, depending upon the buyer's preference. The 2010 Honda CR-V runs from $21,500 to $29,000.
