2.2-liter Ecotec Engine Specsby Andrew Cohen
Ecotech engines are produced by General Motors, and are installed many of its car, truck and SUV models. "Eco" stands for emissions control optimization, as these engines are greener alternatives to standard automobile engines.
A 2.2-liter V-4 Ecotec engine can put out 135 horsepower at 5,200 revolutions per minute. The engine produces 142 pound-feet of torque at 4,400 rpm.
GM's Ecotec engine fires its pistons in the order of 1 to 3 to 4 to 2, and will cut the fuel supply at 6,500 rpm. It has a dual overhead valve configuration and hydraulic roller lifters.
The engine's cylinder block and head are both made of lost-foam cast aluminum, while its intake manifold consists of a composite material. The exhaust manifold is made of high silicon cast iron, while the lower crankcase is made of cast aluminum.
The Ecotec engine is mated to either an electronically controlled automatic transmission or a manual transmission.
