How to Win Car Shows

by Denisa Gipson

Car shows are a popular forum for car enthusiasts who like to show off their "pride and joy". Car shows have evolved from the showing of historical cars from the 1950s and 1960s that people have restored to their original look. Modern-day car shows also cater to car buffs with an interest in newer models and they are a fun way to meet other people who share your interest in automobiles. You can win a car show if you take the right steps to make your car a prize winner.

Clean Your Car

Clean up and vacuum the interior of your car. Remove any clutter and trash from the car and trunk. Take out the floor mats, vacuum those and set them aside. Vacuum the rest of the interior, including the floorboards and seats. Place the floor mats back in the car after vacuuming.

Clean under the hood. This is a necessity if you plan on leaving the hood open during the car show. Many attendees at car shows will look under the hood of your car. Make sure that it is clean and free of as much grease as possible. This may be one of the most time-consuming parts of your cleaning process.

Clean the wheel wells of your car. Clean the undercarriage as much as you can. Depending on the type of car show you attend, the judges will be looking at these areas and sometimes very thoroughly. This will also be a very time-consuming task.

Wash your vehicle the day before or the day of the car show. You can take it to a car wash to remove most of the dirt. Be aware that some car washes can be rough so choose with care if you decide to use one. You can also wash the car yourself. Use a soap that is made especially for cars. Make sure to clean the inside of the car doors. If you have chrome rims on your car, use a special chrome cleaner/polisher. This will greatly improve the look of your rims and the entire car.

Clean the interior of the car. You can use polishing wipes, such as Armor All, to make your dashboard shine. Clean all of your windows, removing dirt and fingerprints. Make sure that you clean the streaks as well. If your car is shown in direct sunlight, streaks and other marks will be very visible.

The Day Of

Arrive early to the car show. This will help to ensure that you get a good spot to park your car. A spot near the judging booth is ideal. You should also take the extra time to detail your car again and clean any debris it sustained from the travel. Register your car in the car show as soon as you can so you do not forget to do so.

Complete the final cleaning before the judges inspect the car. If you are still putting on the finishing touches, it could interfere with the judging process.

Be prepared for the judges' inspection. Be enthused when they visit and answer any questions they have. Be knowledgeable about your car; if they do not understand something about your car, your response will aid their decision making. The key to winning a car show is paying attention to details.
