How to Reset a Fuel Relay Switch on a 2001 Montero Sport
by Ashton DaigleThe fuel pump relay switch on your 2001 Montero Sport is an electrical component that powers the fuel pump. The relay essentially tells the fuel pump to engage when it receives an electric spark from the ignition switch when you turn on the ignition. Sometimes, like when your Montero gets bumped hard, the fuel pump cut-off switch can be triggered. When this happens, you have to reset the fuel relay switch in order to make it work again.
Step 1
Open the hood of your Montero Sport and remove the negative battery cable with the socket set.
Step 2
Locate the main relay panel on the passenger side of the engine compartment, mounted on the front of the upper fender well. Remove the lid to the relay panel by prying it up and off.
Step 3
Examine the relay diagram and locate the fuel pump relay on the diagram. Remove the fuel pump diagram. Unplug it and allow it to stay unplugged for about a minute. Then plug it back in and replace the relay panel cover.
Step 4
Replace the negative battery cable.
