The "Change Oil Soon" light appears in the 2007 Malibu's odometer message window every 3,000 to 5,000 miles, depending on your driving habits. This system simply serves as a reminder that it's time to change the Malibu's oil. Once you change the oil, or a mechanic does so in your place, you'll have to manually reset the oil monitoring system, as the system has no way of automatically resetting itself after an oil change.

Step 1

Turn the ignition to "Run," but do not crank the Malibu's engine. This ignition setting turns on the interior lights and odometer.

Step 2

Push the "Menu" button on the left side of the car's dash repeatedly, until "Oil Life Reset" shows on the odometer message screen.

Step 3

Press and hold the "Reset" button for about three seconds. The "Oil Life Reset" text will change to "Acknowledged."

Step 4

Turn the ignition off, and then turn it back on. The "Change Oil Soon" message no longer displays, and the system is reset.
