How to Reset Pontiac G6 Tire Pressure Sensors After Tire Rotationby Leonardo R. Grabkowski
Tire pressure monitoring systems must be reset or "relearned" after a tire is changed or rotated. In a perfect world, your dealer or service professional will have performed the procedure for you, but if he hasn't, you can do it yourself. The process requires releasing a large amount of air from your tires, so you'll need to have access to an air compressor. The process is the same for all Pontiac G6 models, 2005 and newer.
Make sure that your air compressor has enough air to re-inflate your tires. If you don't have an air compressor, park your G6 near an air machine (often found at gas stations) before beginning the process.
Turn your engine off and set your parking brake. Turn the ignition to "On" without cranking the engine.
Press and hold the "Lock" and "Unlock" button on your keyless entry remote for 5 seconds, until the horn chirps twice.
Remove the valve stem cover from your driver's side front tire. Depress the center stem to release air from the tire for 10 seconds. Wait for the horn to chirp (this can take up to 30 seconds) and the exterior lights to flash.
Repeat the process for the passenger's side front tire, then move on to the passenger's side rear tire, and finally to the driver's side rear tire.
Listen for the two horn chirps after performing the process on the driver's side rear tire. This signals that the resetting and relearning procedure is complete.
Check the tire pressure for each tire, and then add enough air to bring it to the specified level. Inspect the tire specification sticker on the driver's side door jamb; the recommended tire pressure varies depending on your G6's tire and wheel size. Replace the valve stems when you are finished.
- check If your G6 does not have keyless entry, you can still reset the system yourself. Hold the "Info" and "Reset" buttons on your dash until the message "Tire Learn?" is displayed. Perform the procedure as outlined in these steps, and wait for the "Learn Complete" message to display. Remove the key to complete the process.
