How to Replace the Cabin Air Filter on a 2002 Buick Century
by Grace MclainThe cabin air filter acts as a secondary air filter to the engine intake air filter. The outside air travels through the outside vents and into the cabin air filter. The cabin air filter then traps any trash and debris inside the filter before releasing the air into the inside of the 2002 Buick Century. Once the cabin air filter becomes clogged, it will not be able to perform properly and will need to be replaced.
Step 1
Park the 2002 Buick Century and turn the windshield wipers on and stop them in the "Up" position so you will be able to access the cabin air filter vent. Turn off the engine.
Step 2
Open the hood on the 2002 Buick Century and lock the hood in place.
Step 3
Locate the passenger-side vent directly below the passenger-side windshield.
Step 4
Remove the black rubber seal between the frame of the engine compartment and the windshield. This black rubber seal holds the passenger-side vent in place. Slide the flat-head screwdriver under one end of the rubber seal and pry up the seal. Finish pulling the seal out with your fingers.
Step 5
Pull the windshield wiper fluid hoses off all three of the connectors on top of the passenger-side vent. Remove the windshield wiper fluid hoses and set them to the side.
Step 6
Remove the passenger-side square plastic vent. Use the flat-head screwdriver to unscrew the screws on both sides of the vent and the main screw cap in the center of the vent. Then, remove the vent cover from the vent housing. You can now see the cabin air filter.
Step 7
Slide the cabin air filter out with your hands. Slide the new cabin air filter into the vent housing. Make sure the new cabin air filter is seated in the vent housing the same way the old cabin air filter was seated.
Step 8
Reattach the plastic vent cover and tighten the screws.
Step 9
Slide the windshield wiper fluid hoses securely back onto the wiper fluid connectors.
Step 10
Slide the rubber seal in place around the vent housing. Make sure the rubber seal is completely seated along the vent housing. Close the hood of the 2002 Buick Century. Job complete.
