How to Replace the Battery in a Ford Freestar
by Robert GoodThe Ford Freestar, formerly known as the Windstar, is a minivan made by Ford in model years from 2004 to 2007. As with most vehicles, it's not difficult to replace the battery in a Ford Freestar: The battery is easily accessible, and you need only a couple of tools and a few minutes to do the job.
Step 1
Open the Freestar's hood and disconnect the battery from the cables by loosening the securing screws with the screwdriver. The battery is at the front of the engine compartment on the driver's side, in front of the air filter.
Step 2
Remove the securing mount nut and bolt at the bottom of the battery housing with the screwdriver and ratchet set. The battery mount is on the back side of the battery, under the air filter tube.
Step 3
Pull the old battery out of the housing and set it aside.
Step 4
Place the new battery into the housing and replace the securing mount. Make sure that the battery's positive (+) connector is on the driver's side of the engine housing. Replace the securing nut and bolt and tighten.
Step 5
Connect the battery cables to the new battery and tighten the securing screws. Close the Freestar's hood.
