How to Remove the Center Console in a Mazda CX7
by Leonardo R. GrabkowskiThe Mazda CX7 is a crossover SUV that was introduced for the 2007 model year. All models have front bucket seats with a center-mounted front console. This center console houses the storage compartment, the cup holders and the vehicle's gearshift. There are several reasons you would need to remove the center console. You may want to replace it with a new one or install an aftermarket audio accessory such as an iPod integration module.
Step 1
Twist off the CX7's shift knob and set it to the side. Pry up the shift gate panel surrounding it with a plastic trim tool. Unplug the harness from behind, if necessary. CX7s with heated seats will have the switch wiring harness beneath the shift gate panel.
Step 2
Inspect each side of the center console. You'll find two screw covers on each side. Pry up the plastic screw covers with a flat-head screwdriver. Remove the Phillips screws behind the covers.
Step 3
Remove the two fasteners with the flat-head screwdriver. There is one fastener on each side of the center console.
Step 4
Remove the four Phillips screws from the front part of the center console. Lift the center console up to remove if from the CX7.
