Recommended Tires for a Toyota Corolla

The Toyota Corolla switched to 15 inch wheels as the standard in 2003. The higher trim levels of the Corolla have 16 inch wheels as options or standard equipment. The tire size for the 15 inch rim is and 195/65R15 and the 16 inch wheels take 205/55R16 rubber.

Bridgestone Potenza G 019 Grid

The Bridgestone Potenza G 019 Grid is a high-performance, all-season tire in the 195/65R15 size. This tire has a deep, directional tread design molded in long-link carbon black rubber compound. The tire is designed for all-season driving including light snow. The Bridgestone Potenza line is for drivers who want tires that provide good wear characteristics with excellent performance and all-season capability.

Michelin Pilot Exalto A/S

The Michelin Pilot Exalto A/S is a higher priced performance all-season tire in the 195/65R15 size. This tire has a rubber compound formulated to provide excellent handling in all weather conditions. The tread design is directional with lateral tread grooves to help prevent hydroplaning in wet conditions. The Pilot Exalto is manufactured with twin steel belts.

Sumitomo HTR A/S P01

The Sumitomo HTR A/S P01 is another high-performance, all-season tire for the 15 inch Corolla rim. This is the least expensive of the 15 inch tires listed here according to the Tire Rack website. The tread is in a 5-rib directional pattern molded from a high silica rubber compound. The tire body is a combination of steel belts and nylon bands. The HTR A/S is a new line of tires from Sumitoma and stands for high-tech-radial, all season.

General Exclaim UHP

The General Exclaim UHP is an ultra-high performance summer tire in the 205/55R16 size. This is the only tire in this size listed here that costs well under $100. The tire uses high performance silica rubber in a directional tread pattern to provide outstanding wet and dry traction. This tire is not rated or suited for use in snow. The tire has wide solid shoulder tread for an aggressive look. The tire body includes two steel belts rapped in nylon on polyester plies.

Michelin Pilot Exalto PE2

The Michelin Pilot Exalto PE2 is another Michelin Exalto tire available in the Corolla 16 inch size. The PE2 is a step into a higher performance summer tire. The tread is asymmetrical and directional molded from a rubber compound designed to maintain its traction characteristics as the tire wears. The tire provides excellent dry and wet traction, but should not be driven in snowy or freezing conditions. The Pilot Exalto PE2 has steel and nylon belts on a rayon belted body.

Yokohama AVS S1

Priced at well over $200, the Yokohama AVS S1 is for the driver looking for the maximum performance from his Toyota Corolla. The AVS S1 is a Z-rated tire capable of handling speeds up 149 mph. The asymmetrical tread design allows race car like handling. The soft, traction oriented rubber compound gives this tire the lowest wear rating of any tire listed here. The tire meets Porsche original equipment tire specifications.
