How to Find Out What Year a KX 250 Is

by Leonardo R. Grabkowski

The Kawasaki KX 250 is a popular dirt bike. Since 1981, federal law has mandated all vehicles (including motorcycles and dirt bikes) follow the same 17-digit VIN formula. This formula allows you to easily break down the VIN and find out more information about your KX 250. It also allows you to determine what year model your KX 250 is.

Step 1

Find the VIN on your KX 250. The VIN (vehicle identification number) is stamped on a plate on the steering tube leading up to the handlebars.

Step 2

Count out the 10th digit and write it down. The 10th digit signifies the year model of the KX 250. See "Tips" below to learn the year model each letter or number signifies.

Step 3

Go to the Kawasaki website (see "Resources," below) and let the system decode the VIN if you have trouble determining it on your own.
