How to Take Out a Stock Mitsubishi Lancer Head Unit
by Jule PamplinThe factory stereo in the Mitsubishi Lancer includes an AM/FM radio and single-disc CD player. Lancer owners may need to remove the stereo for repairs or replacement. You can choose to have the head unit removed by a professional car audio technician, or you can obtain the necessary tools and do the job yourself.
Step 1
Raise the Lancer's hood and remove the grounding cable from the battery. The cable connects the negative battery terminal with the frame of the vehicle for the purpose of grounding the Mitsubishi's electrical system. Loosen the bolt on the cable with the wrench and lift it from the battery. Set the cable aside and move to the Lancer's interior.
Step 2
Open the glove compartment and remove the two screws at the top corners of the compartment with a Phillips-head screwdriver. Remove the panel from the dashboard above the glove compartment and set it aside.
Step 3
Remove the four screws surrounding the stereo assembly with the screwdriver and remove the plastic dash panel. Set the panel aside. Remove the three screws from the climate-control panel below the stereo with the screwdriver. Remove the panel and set it aside.
Step 4
Slide the stereo deck from the Mitsubishi's stereo dock. Disconnect the stereo wiring connectors from the outlets on the back of the stock stereo. Unplug the antenna cable from the FM antenna input on the lower-right corner of the stereo unit.
