What Is a Muffler Delete Pipe?

by Kay Baxter

Adding muffler delete pipes to your car or truck can greatly increase the horse power and noise level of your vehicle. Muffler delete pipes are made for both gas and diesel cars and trucks.

The function of a muffler delete pipe is to increase the engine performance of a car or truck. By taking out the muffler and installing a muffler delete pipe the vehicle will be much louder and boost the horsepower of the engine. This is due to removing the restriction on air flow that a muffler places on a vehicle.

Diesel Particulate Filter

A diesel particulate filter or DPF is essentially the same thing as a muffler delete pipe, except that it is made for diesel trucks. The Cobb's Diesel Performance site claims the DPF delete kit can "add over 350 horsepower and 550 lb/ft of torque, all while tremendously improving the fuel mileage."

Muffler delete pipes are for off-road use only and are illegal on vehicles used on public streets. Check your local and state laws before installing a muffler delete pipe on your car or truck.
