How to Code a Key for a 98 Honda Accord

The 1998 Honda Accord is among the many Honda vehicles that is equipped with transponder key capabilities. These keys are sycned electronically to your engine and you can use them with your starter as a safety and convenience features. Once coded, only a programmed key can be used to start your car, and you can sync the keys in just seconds from your driver's seat.

Step 1

From the driver's seat insert your key into the ignition.

Step 2

Turn the key in the ignition to the "on" position, press the "lock" or "unlock" button on your remote and cycle the key back to the "off" position.

Step 3

Repeat the previous step two more times, for a total of three cycles, and turn the ignition switch back to the "on" position.

Step 4

Press the "lock' or "unlock" button on your remote again and wait for the door locks to automatically cycle.

Step 5

Turn the ignition back to "off" to end the programming sequence.
