How to Reset the SRS Light on Vehicles
by Contributing WriterUpdated June 12, 2017When you see the Supplemental Restraint Systems (SRS) light illuminated on the control panel of your Vehicles it means there is a problem with the airbags or the seatbelt tensioners. When there is a malfunction in the Vehicles codes are stored in the On-Board Diagnostics (OBD) computer. These codes can be read and cleared using an OBD scan tool that you can purchase from your local auto parts retailer. Many auto parts stores will even let you use their OBD scan tool Vehicles free so that you will know what the problem is and possibly purchase parts from their store to fix the problem.

Open the hood.
Lift up on the tab on the side of the fuse cover to remove it. The fuse block is on the driver's side of the engine compartment.
Pull out the SRS fuse. In most models, this is fuse #40, located in the lower right corner of the fuse block.
Turn the ignition switch to "ON" without starting the engine. Leave the ignition on for about one minute to allow the system a chance to reset.
Turn the ignition off.

Put on safety goggles and cloth work gloves.
Find the MES connector under the steering wheel near the fuse box. It is generally green or yellow and has a two-hole holder plug in its place. Remove the plug.
Strip the ends of both wires using a knife. Put one end of each of the wires into each of the holes of the MES connector.
Cross the other ends of each of the wires together so that they establish contact. This will short out the MES. Take care not to touch the exposed wire with any part of your body.
Put the key in the ignition and turn it on, but don’t start the engine. Keep the ends of the wire touching while you do this. The SRS light will flash on, and then disappear. Separate the wires immediately. The SRS light should come on again.
Repeat Step 3 and the SRS light will blink twice and turn off. Unshort the two wires. This will cause the SRS light to blink twice.
Turn off the vehicle, wait a minute and start the engine. The SRS light will illuminate once more, and then go off for good.

Check your owner's manual for what the codes mean.
Unplug the scan tool and put the fuse panel cover back in place. Take your vehicle to your local Mercedes dealer to have repairs made, if needed.
