How Do I Remove the Back Seat on a 2005 Malibu Classic?
by Gregory CrewsThe 2005 Chevrolet Malibu Classic comes equipped with a back seat capable of folding down to make more room in the trunk for cargo. This makes the seat more complicated to remove because it has several bolts that need to be loosened to take it off the backing plate holding it in place. Removing the back seat makes room for additional audio equipment, while also necessary for replacing worn back seats.
Step 1
Open the trunk of the Malibu and locate the two cables behind the seat. Pull both cables until the seat pops out of place.
Step 2
Access the front of the back seats. Pull the back seat down. Unscrew all the bolts behind the back seats to release it from the brace. Pull the seat back off the rear deck and out of the car.
Step 3
Feel under the seat cushions for release tabs on both sides. Pull the release tabs to loosen the seat cushion. Push the seat belt buckles into the holes to prevent the seat from getting caught up in the seat cushion.
Step 4
Lift the seat cushion up and out of the car. Place in a dry covered area.
