How to Change the Oil on a 220 Kawasaki Bayou
by Vanessa PadgalskasThe Kawasaki Bayou 220 is one of the smallest engines built by Kawasaki, and it is only available in 2WD. The Bayou 220 is one of the best selling ATVs of all time, because it is inexpensive and easy to operate. Changing the oil by yourself will save you money.
Step 1
Buy oil and an oil filter. The Bayou 220 takes 2 quarts of 10w30 oil, and a FRAM CH6070 oil filter which comes with an o-ring. If you buy a filter without an o-ring you will need to buy one from Kawasaki.
Step 2
Put the oil drip pan underneath the drain plug then unscrew the drain plug. Let the oil drain for about 5 minutes. Replace the drain plug when the oil is finished draining. You need to use a new drain plug or the oil will leak.
Step 3
Remove the cap covering the oil filter then remove the oil filter. The filter is located on the front right side of the motor. You will see a cap with two bolts. Unscrew the bolts then remove the cap and pull out the filter. Drop in the new filter with the new o-ring. Screw the bolts back on the oil filter cap.
Step 4
Unscrew the oil filler cap. Put a funnel in the hole and pour 2 quarts of oil in the funnel. Screw the cap back on when you are finished.
