Changing the battery on your car is an essential task that should be done every two or three years, depending on the amount of driving you do and the amount of corrosion and corrosive material build-up on your batteries access points. Changing the battery in a Peugeot 206 requires the same basic procedures as in most other cars, with the Peugeot requiring a 12-volt battery with 44 or 45 amp hours.

Step 1

Turn your 206 off and pop the hood. As with most cars, the battery compartment is in the engine compartment. In the 206, the battery is located to the right of the main engine block, on the driver's side of the engine compartment.

Step 2

Loosen the bolt attaching the negative (black) connection wires to the negative terminal on your 206's battery using an adjustable wrench or pair of pliers. Remove the terminal by hand. It is important to remove the negative terminal first, as it is the grounding wire. Failure to remove the negative terminal first could result in a hazardous shock.

Step 3

Loosen the bolt attaching the positive (red) connection wires to the positive terminal. Remove the terminal by hand.

Step 4

Lift the old battery out of the battery housing case. The 12V battery in a Peugeot 206 weighs approximately 10 pounds.

Step 5

Place the new battery in the housing case and reconnect the terminals, starting with the positive terminal then the negative terminal.
