Beginner Motorcycle Training Courses in Tulsa
by Melissa KellyUpdated October 25, 2017There are multiple options for motorcycle training courses in and around the Tulsa, Oklahoma area, most of which are sponsored by the Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF). Upon successful completion of the training courses, an MSF-compliant completion card will be provided, which will exempt you from taking the riding portion of your motorcycle license test in the state of Oklahoma. The course may also qualify you to receive a discount on your motorcycle insurance, depending upon the insurance provider. Most importantly, the courses will teach you how to be an adept rider with keen road awareness to ensure your motorcycle riding experiences are pleasant and safe.
Rider's Edge
The local Tulsa Harley Davidson Dealership, Myers-Duren Harley, offers a training course known as Rider's Edge in which multiple levels of training are available. The classes offered include a new rider's course, a skilled rider course and a group riding course, all of which are sponsored by the MSF. The course consists of classroom learning followed by learning on the practice range. At the end of the course, riders must complete a test and a function test to obtain an MSF Completion card.

Motorcycle Training and Safety Center
The Motorcycle Training and Safety Center (MTSC) in Tulsa County offers a RiderCourse program for both new and experienced riders that is sponsored by local motorcycle dealerships, the MSF, Oklahoma Department of Transportation, and the Oklahoma Rider Education Program, among others. The courses are held at the Tulsa Technology Center and cost approximately $200 for a Friday evening through Sunday course.

Oklahoma Rider Education Program
The Oklahoma Rider Education Program is a "not for profit organization consisting of motorcycle enthusiasts...and certified motorcycle safety instructions" throughout the state. The instructors are MSF-certified and licensed by the State of Oklahoma's Department of Public Safety. Courses are offered in Stillwater and Drumright, both of which are approximately 1 hour west of Tulsa. Courses are also offered in the Oklahoma City area, which is approximately 1.5 hours southwest of Tulsa. Beginner's courses are offered on the weekends or through the week starting at $150. Experience rider courses start at $60 and are typically single day sessions.
