When buying car batteries, several things need to be taken into consideration. First, a battery's group size determines what car manufacturer and car model the battery is designed for. Second, the cold-cranking amps (CCA) is a measurement of a battery's ability to start in cold weather. Last, the reserve capacity is an indication of how long a car can run on just the battery.

NAPA has a number of car batteries for virtually every car make and model. According to, the NAPA 84 battery series is the No. 1 type of car battery. NAPA has also been rated highly by a number of other product reviewers. For example, product reviews named the NAPA Performance Select 8465 the best overall car battery and the NAPA Legend 7535 was ranked as the best value battery on the market. NAPA car batteries are available at virtually all auto part retailers as well as the NAPA website.

Die Hard

The Die Hard brand of car batteries is manufactured by Sears and has one of the longest and most comprehensive warranties on the market. The warranty comes standard with any Die Hard battery and is a full replacement three-year warranty. In other words, if your Die Hard battery fails within three years of purchasing it, Sears will replace it at no cost to you. In addition, Die Hard batteries have at least 495 CCA and thus perform very well in cold weather. Die Hard batteries can be found at Sears stores and other auto part retailers.

Duralast are manufactured by AutoZone and designed to last longer than other car battery brands. Duralast batteries are made with different specifications based on the climate the customer lives in. For instance, Duralast batteries that are meant for use in a warmer climate will have extra heat resistance and less CCA so they will last longer in the heat. Duralast batteries that will be used in a colder climate will have very high CCA (over 550) so they will be able to start in below freezing temperatures. The reason Duralast batteries are some of the best also has to do with the fact that AutoZone will personally service your battery for the duration of its life. In addition, whenever a customer feels like they may need a new battery, AutoZone will perform a free test on the current battery to determine its remaining usage.
