How to Align Volvo Headlights

by Alibaster Smith

You should always make sure that you have the correct headlight adjustment on your Volvo. Proper headlight adjustment ensures that you aren't blinding oncoming traffic and likewise aren't aiming the headlights too low. Either type of misalignment can cause a dangerous situation on public roads. On a Volvo, there are two adjustment screws. The horizontal screw sits on the inside of the headlight housing, and the vertical screw is on the top of the housing.

Step 1

Face the front of the Volvo toward a flat wall and make sure that the vehicle is about 10 feet away from the wall.

Step 2

Mark the vertical center line for your Volvo's headlight assembly on the wall with masking tape. Then, mark the horizontal center line of the headlights on the wall. Find the center of your headlights, and then place a strip of masking tape on the wall that corresponds to the center of your Volvo's headlights. You will end up with a "+" on the wall indicating both horizontal and vertical center lines of your Volvo.

Step 3

Turn on the headlights. Shine them at the wall.

Step 4

Adjust the horizontal adjustment screw (on the inside of the headlight assembly) and vertical adjustment screw (on the top of the headlight assembly) so that the headlight beam is 2 to 4 inches to the right of the vertical center line and 2 to 4 inches below the horizontal center line.
