Transmission Dipstick Location in a 2006 Saturn VUE

by Kyle McBride

The 2006 Saturn Vue came with a 2.2-liter, inline-four or a 3.5-liter V-6 engine. In the 3.5-liter engine compartment, find the black loop on the end of the automatic transaxle dipstick toward the rear of the engine compartment, about in the center. Vues with the 2.2-liter engine don't have a dipstick.

Checking Transaxle Fluid on the 3.5-Liter

To get an accurate reading, the fluid in the transaxle has to be between 180 and 200 degrees Fahrenheit. You'll get false readings on the dipstick if the fluid temperature is below 180 degrees or above 200 degrees. Overfilling or underfilling the transaxle can cause damage, so if you're not confident you can take an accurate fluid level reading, take your Vue to a service professional to have the transaxle fluid checked. With the 3.5-liter engine, the transaxle takes ATF Z1 fluid, Saturn part No, 22717466.

Checking Transaxle Fluid on the 2.2-Liter

The oil level control plug is on the passenger side of the transaxle. Your Vue has to be level and raised on a hoist or jack stands to check the fluid level, and the fluid has to be at least 104 degrees to get an accurate reading. Take your Vue to a service professional to have the fluid level checked if you are not confident you can perform this procedure yourself. With the 2.2-liter engine, the transaxle takes Dexron VI ATF fluid.
